If you’re seeking places to visit in St. Petersburg, you’ll find no shortage of options here. This city is home to some of the most stunning and historic attractions globally. One of my best friends is from Russia, so I’ll give you a few tips on sightseeing in St. Petersburg from a local perspective.
The first place you’ll want to visit is the Peter and Paul Fortress. This fortress, located on an island in the Neva River, is one of the oldest structures in St. Petersburg, and it’s home to several museums and other attractions. The Hermitage Museum is another must-see attraction in this city. With its world-famous art collection, it’s no wonder that the Hermitage is one of Russia’s most popular tourist destinations.
Head over to Palace Square, where you’ll find some of St. Petersburg’s most famous landmarks, including the Winter Palace and the Alexander Column. And don’t forget to enjoy a leisurely stroll along Nevsky Prospect while you’re there!

Peterhof Palace
This palace is one of the most beautiful places in Russia and a must-see for any traveller to St. Petersburg. You’ll find this palace 20 minutes outside of downtown Saint Petersburg by train or car. The palace was built in the 1700s as part of Peter The Great’s plan to expand and westernise Russia. This historic landmark offers visitors stunning architecture and breathtaking views thanks to its location near water that makes up two-thirds of all surface area – don’t miss out on seeing such a marvellous place!
Catherine Palace
Located just outside of St Petersburg, in Tsarskoe Selo, the Catherine Palace is one of Russia’s most spectacular buildings to visit. The palace construction was requested by Catherine I of Russia and was renovated in its current structure in 1752.
The Catherine Palace is known for its beautiful facade with gold elements and its stunning Amber Room. Unfortunately, the room was destroyed during World War II, but an exact replica was built.

A large and impressive building with colourful onion domes that stand out against other churches nearby. The church was built after Tsar Alexander II was assassinated by radicals in 1881 as an act of revenge. Today, it welcomes hundreds of tourists each day who come from all over Russia or abroad just so they can see what this spectacular site has to offer!

This large island in the middle of the Neva River is home to universities, the Stock Exchange and more. In addition, you’ll find a variety of places to eat and drink as well as interesting museums. The museum is dedicated to naval history and contains the world’s most extensive collection of Russian naval art with thousands of exhibits. Its collection includes everything from old maps and model ships to paintings, weapons and uniforms.

The cruiser Aurora is a historic ship that was an important part of the Russian Revolution. Today, it’s open as a museum and visitors can explore the ship and learn about its history.
