Arriving at Corfu
The best way to arrive in Corfu is by ferry from the mainland. The journey takes around two hours, and once you reach the island, you’ll be greeted with stunning views of the turquoise waters and lush green hills. There are several ports on Corfu, so be sure to check which one your ferry will be arriving at. Once you disembark from the ferry, make your way into town and grab a map of the island. This will come in handy during your stay as it can be pretty challenging to navigate Corfu’s winding roads.
What to do during a weekend in Corfu
There are various things to do in Corfu, whether you’re looking for relaxation or adventure. The island is home to plenty of beaches, hiking trails, and other outdoor activities. In the city of Corfu, you can explore the Old Town, visit museums and churches, or simply enjoy the Mediterranean atmosphere. And of course, no trip to this island would be complete without sampling the local cuisine!
If you’re seeking a beach where you can relax and soak up the sun, head to Glyfada Beach. This popular spot is located just outside Corfu Town and is easily by bus or car. Glyfada is known for its crystal-clear water and lovely sandy beaches.
If you’re looking for something a bit more adventurous, try exploring the island’s interior. There are several hiking trails as well as mountain biking and horseback riding. One popular route is the Paleokastritsa Trail, which takes hikers through some of Corfu’s most beautiful scenery.
Make sure to enjoy the delicious food that Corfu offers! The island is famous for its seafood dishes, but plenty of restaurants serve up traditional Greek fare. Also, be sure to try some of the local delicacies like dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) and moussaka (a dish made with ground beef, eggplant, and potatoes).
Weekend in Corfu: where to eat
I recommend trying out some local spots like the Konaki in Sidari. The food is fresh and so tasty, and the views over the bay are stunning. Another great option is Petrino’s Garden in Paleokastritsa – the meat dishes here are delicious. If you’re looking for a little more upmarket, head to Savva’s Tavern in Agios Nikolaos – the seafood here is outstanding.
If you’re looking for something more ‘fast-food’ style, then there are plenty of great options too. One of my favourites is The Snack Shack in Agios Georgios– they do the best fries on the island! Another great option is Angelos Creperie in Acharavi – their crepes are delicious and have a great selection of sweet and savoury fillings.
Weekend in Corfu: the best places to stay at
There are plenty of accommodation options on Corfu, both in the towns and villages and along the coast. If you’re looking for a calm and relaxing stay, I recommend staying in one of the villages like Paleokastritsa or Agios Stefanos. These places are beautiful and offer stunning views of the sea. However, if you’re after more nightlife and action, then head to one of the towns like Corfu Town or Kerkira.
There are plenty of Airbnbs and hotels to choose from, but make sure to book in advance during peak season! If you’re into a more rural experience, head inland to one of the island’s many olive groves – there are some stunning properties nestled among them.
Weekend in Corfu: the best beaches to sunbathe at
Among tourists, some of the top beaches are Paleokastritsa, Agios Gordios, and Issos. All offer stunningly clear waters and beautiful scenery.
- Paleokastritsa is the most popular beach on the island, and for a good reason – it’s absolutely gorgeous! The water is a bright turquoise colour, and the cliffs surrounding the beach make for a perfect backdrop.
- Issos is one of the lesser-known beaches on Corfu, but it’s definitely worth a visit. The beach is small and secluded, and the water is crystal clear.
- Agios Gordios is another great option, especially if you’re looking for a more secluded beach experience. It’s definitely worth it.
