Tips When You’re Moving to Cyprus

Moving to Cyprus

Cyprus is an island country measuring 9,251km2 and with a population density of 1,099,341. So far, it is the third largest and third most populous island in the Mediterranean Sea. Cyprus has one of the most complicated histories, whereby the island has experienced a series of wars before becoming independent in 1960. Otherwise, the island has had a pensive relationship between its Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots since 1974, and up to date, there is still hope that a solution will be found.

On the other hand, as you contemplate moving to Cyprus, bear in mind it is still one of the most breathtaking islands of the Mediterranean Sea and has one of the most vibrant tourist activities.

The Procedure

There are various items that you will need if you wish to become a citizen someday, and you have to observe multiple protocols placed by the Republic of Cyprus on immigration policies. Some of these registration procedures will include:

If you are a European citizen and would like a permit to stay in Cyprus for less than three months, you have to hold a valid passport or Identity Card (ID).

Close family members of an EU Member state citizen, whether in the company of the EU Member citizen or waiting to be received by the member, must also hold a valid passport as well as a consular authentication of the passport.

Otherwise, those planning on a stay of more than three months must hold a valid passport or identity card, must have a paid employment status or be self-employed in Cyprus, or have authenticating documents of being registered to a private or public institution in Cyprus with intentions of academic pursuit or a training course. Then you also need full insurance coverage that will cover the costs of being sick.

For EU Member State citizens and their family members who are also Citizens of EU member states must register with the Cyprus Census Records and Migration Department within the four months after their arrival.

A family member or family members of an EU Member State citizen who accompanies the EU Member State citizen or is to be received by the EU Member State citizen must apply for or submit the application for a “residence permit” (within the four months of arrival in Cyprus) for the EU member State family member.

Otherwise, nationals from the EU Member States can follow this link to access relevant Application forms for their resident permit.

While for the citizens from non-EU member states can follow the following links to upload the visa application form to Cyprus, which is visa through this link and this link for long term stay.

You will have to bear in mind several aspects when moving to Cyprus, especially when it comes to relocation procedures of your items such as furniture, car, and other things. However, EU Member citizens will have an easier time moving to Cyrus since there is free movement of goods and capital as long as, according to the EU policies and immigration terms, the items are not a threat to the Republic of the Republic Cyprus.

However, on the other hand, non-EU Member State citizens and third countries seek to move goods or items to the Republic of Cyprus.

Finding Accommodation and Schools

When moving to Cyprus, one of the most significant challenges will be to find suitable accommodation for you and your loved ones. Most of the time, you will have to consider the social amenities found in your prospective location of residence if you need an easier time to adjust.

Then you also have to bear in mind that the purchase price of most apartments is priced at per square meter, whereby the start off fee for an apartment being €1,700, building a house starting at €1,000 per square metre and a site starts from €100,000 per square meter.

On the other hand, the rentals are much cheaper, ranging from €8 to €15 per square metre. You can also visit this link for instructions for those who wish to get a residence permit in Cyprus and this link for a list of authenticated estate agents if you are already cleared.

On the other hand, children or students looking for schools in Cyprus have to bear in mind that students from the EU Member States will easily continue with their education. In contrast, students from the non-EU Member States need a full-time student visa to be admitted to a Cyrus institution. These details can be accessed at here and a better idea of what you should expect during admission.

Working in Cyprus

Considering one of the main requirements to become a resident in Cyrus is having a paid employment or being self-employed, you might think about what it takes to work in Cyprus. The main languages are Greek and English, and at times you need to be conversant with the terms of employment while in Cyprus.

Depending on whether you are an EU Member State citizen or not, the working permit requirements will typically vary based on these aspects. Therefore, you will have to meet various needs to get a work permit, which will be found here.

It is also important to note that moving to Cyprus will require you to show or indicate that you are financially capable of sustaining your livelihood while in Cyprus. This means that having a work permit is not all you need, but you also need to show resilience and independence while in the country.

If moving to Cyprus becomes a challenge or you feel stranded at any one point, always consider contacting your local embassy or visit here for more details on Cyprus Resident visas.

Otherwise, most of the time, your local embassy should have all the necessary information on the requirements of moving to Cyprus. For the best results, always ensure that you do some background search on your prospective area of residence.
